Raise on Hold

A coworker of mine told me that he just got his review today. The salary increase given to him after the review was only 2% unlike the previous 5% . The super told him that is what everybody will be getting due to the slowdown of our company and the sluggish economy of course.
Ugh, I feel bad about this but what can I do? I can’t look for another job because all other companies are laying off or shutting down these days. I have been thinking of asking for a raise myself during my coming review this Feb but I guess for now, I just have to content myself with whatever our company can offer me at this time of financial crisis. I don’t think I have the right to ask for anything for now. I can ask but I might put my source of income in jeopardy and that is what I don’t want to happen.
I guess I can only be thankful that I still have a job in this time of recession even though it doesn’t give me the salary that I fully deserve.
