Filipino Nurses on the Maryland News

Why are they complaining ? It’s not our fault that the USA is having a shortage on nurses.
We are thankful that our Filipino nurses are hired in the US but foreigners should underestimate the capability of our nurses. Do they think Filipino nurses are not qualified to work in the USA? Maybe they think they are just graduates of two year course? Our Filipino nurses are graduates of real nursing schools and not from diploma millers. They’ve graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and passed the Nursing board exams. Before they are even hired to work in the USA, they have to take exams, like the NCLEX and the CGFNS. Plus the IELTS. Bah, it’s not easy to pass those exams.
With regards to training, our Filipino nurses have a lot of extensive trainings , they go through affiliation and internship, they are trained in hospitals, they go to health centers, to far-flung areas to help care the sick, even to mental institutions to have a hands-on experience. They do not just stay in air-conditioned rooms and study their books and their theories, they go out there in the real world. And many long years of employment are required before one is hired to work in the USA, five to eight years of work experience. This is America, they will not hire our nurses if they’re just fresh graduates or if they’re inexperienced so they should not doubt our nurses’ ability to give quality care to the sick.
And they’re commenting on the language barrier? Filipinos may have an accent but we do understand spoken and written English perfectly, just give them a little time to adjust and they’ll be able to talk with a twang just like Americans do.
Just wondering why they didn’t interview the patients of these Filipino nurses? Why just focus on the “importation” of Filipino nurses, why not try understanding too the benefits. I think the “end ” justifies the means.
