Costly Prescription Eyeglasses

Posted By USAPinoy on May 1, 2011

Yesterday I went to Site for Sore Eyes to have a pair of prescription glasses made. I ended up paying $264 even with a $150 voucher. I didn’t know that eyeglasses are that pricey as this is my first time to have a prescription eyeglasses. Anyway, below is breakdown of the bill:

$220 for the lens ( progressive )
$129 for the metal frames ( the tag said $229 but salesperson gave it to me for $129 )
$ 65 for the anti glare treatment
—————-
$414 total
$150 company voucher/discount
—————-
$264, out of my own pocket and I didn’t get a second pair free because of the voucher I used :(

I have paid the $264 with my credit card but this morning, as I was looking at my bills, I thought, ” why didn’t I just ordered my glasses from the Philippines when my Mom will be coming this May anyway??”. Eyeglasses in the Philippines are not that costly and even if it comes up to P5,000 pesos then that’s roughly 100 bucks only. I blame myself for not thinking about it right away before I ordered my glasses. I don’t know why I didn’t remember that but then maybe I was only thinking of the frequent headaches I was having and how I wanted it to go away quickly so I ordered them right away? Or perhaps I got excited too since this is the first time I will be wearing glasses.

Oh well, regrets always come later, I can never take back that $264 I paid for, the receipt says they do not issue refunds. So here I am, typing away and sharing my stupidity with the world.

So then, a word of advise, don’t be like me, if someone is coming back from the Philippines, then just order your prescription eyeglasses there and have that person bring it for you, the price you pay here might even be equal to four pairs of eyeglasses there.
