Broken Window & Insurance Deductibles
Posted By USAPinoy on August 28, 2007
Last August 25th, we found the glass window on the driver’s side of our Toyota 4Runner totally smashed and broken into. Two bags were taken with my son’s personal belongings and my husband’s watch. Personally, I was shocked and I cannot believe that it happened . It’s like a scene from a movie that I didn’t think it was really real when my husband told me about it. Not when I saw the pictures, the window was really shattered to smithereens.
We were not able to file a claim on the damages and repairs since the cost of repairs was a little below $200 and it was lower than our 500$ deductible. It means that below or equal to $500 we cover the costs, over that amount then the car insurance will reimburse us. That is the way it works here so how can I complain. (Lower insurance premiums mean higher deductibles which also means that those petty claims that we might have in the future will never ever be covered by the auto insurance unless of course they are above our 500$ deductible.)
Anyway, it was a good thing that replacing the glass window didn’t cost that much, it was just $170, never mind the other things that John and my husband lost to that thieves. At least they did not take our car.
